Now there’s an easy way to get a book that is not listed in your local library catalog.
What is the ZIP BOOK PROGRAM?
If your local library doesn’t have a book you requested in their catalog you have the option of ordering it through the California Library Zip Book program which is sponsored by the California State Library. The book is shipped directly to your home via Amazon prime. If your local library doesn’t carry my book RECKLESS BEGINNINGS, you can now request it through this program. How awesome is that!
What are the Requirements?
In order to use this fabulous program, you must meet certain requirements.
1- You must be a member of your library and in good standing with no outstanding fines or returns.
2- The book that you are requesting must be available on Amazon, so check before filling out the required form.
3- You may only order paperbacks, large print or audio books under $35.00
4- You can only order one title at a time and it must be returned before another title can be ordered.
How to Order Zip Books
The program couldn’t be any simpler. I tried it with our local library here in Frazier Park and requested my book RECKLESS BEGINNINGS. There are two ways to request a book. You can either go to the website of your local library and click on the Zip Book logo which can be found on the home page of most sites, or you can go to your library in person and request a zip Book request form.
I chose to order it online. The process was so easy. The form was user-friendly and asked me for the book title, the format, and my library card number. Once I had submitted the information I received an email confirming my order and that I would be notified shortly on whether it was approved or not. Within twenty-four hours I received another email, stating my request had been approved and would be shipped shortly. I am currently waiting to receive the book. The order was placed Monday, November 25th. How easy was that? 🙂
What Happens After you Recieve the Book?
Most Libraries will allow you to keep the book for ninety days. But check with your local library to see what their return policy is.
You must return the book inside the library and not in the drop box. It will not be removed from your account if dropped off in the drop box. Be sure to tell your librarian that you are returning a Zip Book.
What Happens to the Book Once it had Been Returned?
The head librarian will review the book and will decide whether or not to add it to the library catalog. This program is a great way to check out books not listed by your library and have them continue to carry it by adding it to their collection once returned. Because of this programme, RECKLESS BEGINNINGS has been requested in numerous libraries via the Zip Book program and remains in circulation once returned. So thank you to those that have requested it, and please consider requesting a copy through this program at your local library so a copy will be available in your area.

RECKLESS BEGINNINGS was finally launched just over a month ago. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of trying different promotions and brainstorming ways to market the book with podcast and radio interviews. Newspaper articles and appearing as a guest author on many book blogs. The task is grueling and time-consuming but my hard work is beginning to show results. Other media outlets are now contacting me instead of me reaching out to them, because of hearing about the book from other sources.
One of those outlets was Eyewitness News KBAK. I received a call from them on Monday, November 25th requesting an interview with me the next day, after hearing me on Central Valley Radio – Fresno a few weeks ago. I was thrilled and canceled all engagements I had for the next day. Renya Harvey was the reporter and came to my home to conduct the interview. She was brilliant to work with and made the whole process run smoothly. I felt at ease and confident while speaking to her and was pleased with the end results. The interview was aired that night on the 5’oclock evening news and again on the morning show, the day after.
